At Carmelo Vineyards, honoring the rich history of Carmel Valley is part of everything we do. Today, we’re proud to share the story of a very special addition to our property—one that carries decades of local tradition, storytelling, and charm.

A Trailer with a Story to Tell

Originally built in 1990, this beautifully restored trailer was once owned and operated by the beloved local figure known as “Pete the Cowboy.” For years, Pete used this very trailer to give rides through Carmel Valley Village, creating unforgettable experiences for locals and visitors alike.

In its early days, the trailer was horse-drawn, capturing the true spirit of the Old West. As times evolved, it was later pulled by a classic 1940s John Deere tractor—continuing the tradition while blending heritage with a touch of modern practicality.

A New Chapter at Carmelo Vineyards

Today, this historic trailer has found a new home at Carmelo Vineyards under the care of the Albanese family. With thoughtful restoration and attention to detail, the trailer has been brought back to life while preserving its original character and charm.  Now, it begins its next chapter, right here among the vines.

Vineyard Rides, Reimagined

Guests and wine club members will soon be able to experience the vineyard in a truly unique way. The restored trailer will be used to offer scenic rides through the estate, giving visitors a chance to take in the beauty of the vineyards while connecting with a piece of Carmel Valley’s past.

Continuing the Rancho Carmelo Legacy

The Rancho Carmelo property has long been a place where stories are made and traditions are carried forward. From its roots as California’s first dude ranch to its present-day role as a vineyard and gathering place, the spirit of the land remains alive.  By restoring and preserving this trailer, we’re proud to continue that legacy—keeping a meaningful piece of Carmel Valley history moving forward for future generations to enjoy.
